TERMS AND DISCLAIMER
Big note: This tutorial is code example refinement of the outdated version "Microsoft(r) Visual C++(r) .Net Step by Step--Version 2003" by Julian Templeman (Author), John Sharp (Author), Andy Olsen (Contributor) by Microsoft Publisher. All the credits, copyrights and the related must go to the original authors and/or publishers. The code refinement was done to make it useful for real beginners and suitable for the self-study session as stated by the "step-by-step" words. The book 'doesn't show' a complete step-by-step to make most of the code sample works. Most of those code snippets just end like that. Furthermore the ever new .net framework versions introduction making the code sample outdated fast which need many code modifications and VC++ project environment changes. Other than the step-by-step code example refinements, readers should refer to MSDN for updated references. Opposite to C# and VB .NET, readers should aware the VC++ update: VC C++ (Standard C++) > Managed Extension for C++ > C++ .NET (Managed C++) > C++/CLI (with some Microsoft extension to the standard C++ or Managed C++, already incorporated in ECMA specification). Use the last one, C++/CLI. The real new C++ ISO/IEC standard should be C++0x. Comparison between C++ and C# can be found here (by Microsoft) and language equivalents and differences for Microsoft products can be found here. Based on our experience if you fluent in C# or C++, it is easier to learn C++ or C# respectively.
